In June 2020, the Holy Spirit put it on my heart to consolidate and expand the baking ministries I was providing in different locations throughout Houston. Baking is my way of loving on people, and I have been blessed with many opportunities to use the skills God has blessed me with to express that love. I feel particularly called to bake for those who are on the fringes of society, forgotten and lost.
I figured I would find some commercial kitchen space, sign a lease, and get going. I actually told God, “I’ve got this” (and God laughed). I soon realized it doesn't work that way. There were many times during this journey that I had to admit that I had no clue what I was doing, difficult for a control freak. I know how to bake. Period. And every time, God provided the right person with the answer or the next step. With the help of a lot of people, the 501(c)(3) was set-up and approved by the IRS, commercial kitchen space was leased and we pulled the first batch of cookie dough out of the mixer in April 2021.
As I look back, I am in awe of all God has done, the faith and trust that has come through this process, and the amazing people that have blessed my life. Golden Butterfly Bakers has become so much more than I ever envisioned, providing us the opportunity to touch many more lives with God’s love and grace through our baked goods. And all I had to do was get out of God’s way.
